Daisy Hill Trails

The Daisy Hill trails run through Daisy Hill Conservation Park, a stretch of eucalypt and spotted gum forest south of Brisbane best known as home to the Daisy Hill Koala Centre. Leashed dogs are welcome on the shared walking tracks, and the forest canopy keeps most of the network shaded even on a hot Queensland afternoon, which makes this one of the more reliable bushwalks in Logan for dog owners.

The walk

Expect a mix of wide, mostly flat firebreak trails and gravel paths plus steeper forest tracks, with loops of varying length, so pick a route to suit your dog's fitness rather than assuming one standard circuit. The Quarry Road side of the park follows gently undulating gravel forest roads, and the area around the Koala Centre and picnic grounds offers easy, family-friendly walking. Look for the dog-walking symbol on the markers at track junctions before committing to a route.

Leash status

Dogs must be on a leash at all times; there is no off-leash area anywhere in the conservation park. Dogs are permitted on designated walking tracks and shared trails only, and are not allowed on the dedicated mountain-bike trails or horse-riding trails. The bike-only singletrack carries fast descending riders, so a leashed dog underfoot there is a bad mix for everyone.

Water

Potable water is available near the main day-use and picnic areas by the Koala Centre entry, but fountains are thin out on the trails themselves. Carry your own water and a bowl for the dog, especially in the warmer months.

Hazards

This is significant koala habitat, so keep your dog close and under control around wildlife, both for the koalas' sake and to avoid an unplanned chase. It is a no-bin park: bag dog waste immediately and carry it out with you, as there are no dispensers or bins on the tracks.

Max: stick to the signed shared trails and keep the lead short when mountain bikers come through, the forest is thick enough that you hear them before you see them.

When to go

The park opens daily from 7am to 5:30pm and entry is free. Go early on weekends, both to beat the mountain bikers and the car park rush and to keep the walk cool for your dog; weekdays are noticeably quieter.

Getting there and parking

The park is roughly 25 minutes' drive from the Brisbane CBD. The main entry and large free car park sit off Daisy Hill Road near the Koala Centre, with further access from side streets such as Davina Street. Public transport does not reach the trailheads, so a car is the practical option.
