Quarry Road Track

Quarry Road Track is a wide gravel management road looping through the spotted gum and eucalypt forest of Daisy Hill Conservation Park, about 25 km south east of Brisbane. It is one of the rare Queensland conservation parks where dogs are expressly welcome, which makes this 6.3 km circuit a proper bushwalk rather than a compromise.

The walk

Around 6.3 km on a wide, firm gravel road with rolling hills, taking most walkers an hour and a half to two hours. The surface is easy underfoot and wide enough to step aside comfortably, which is exactly why it works better with a dog than the narrower singletrack threading the same forest. Signage and maps are posted at the trailhead.

Leash status

Dogs must be on a lead at all times. QPWS permits dogs only in the picnic areas and on walking tracks and shared trails where the dog-walking symbol is displayed; they are banned from the mountain bike and horse trails in the same forest. Check the marker at each junction rather than guessing, and note that dogs are not allowed inside the Daisy Hill Koala Centre building.

The park runs a carry-in, carry-out policy with no bins anywhere, so bag dog waste immediately and take it with you.

Water

There is none on the track. Carry your own for both of you and treat any water you find in the park as undrinkable.

Watch-outs

Parts of the park are under partial closure for fireline upgrades until 30 September 2026, including Quarry Road itself, with heavy machinery working nearby. Check the current park alerts and obey closure signage before you set out.

Venomous snakes live in the forest, so carry a first aid kit with a snake bite bandage, and check for ticks afterwards. The trail is shared and mountain bikes come through at speed from either direction, so keep the lead short around corners and stay on the marked route.

Getting there

The main trailheads and picnic areas sit off Daisy Hill Road, with the Quarry Road track accessed from the park's internal road network. Parking fills quickly on weekends at the main day-use areas, so arrive early. The park entrance is a short drive from the Pacific Motorway at Springwood.

More walks nearby

The other Daisy Hill walking trails share the same dog-friendly rules, and the Buhot Creek Circuit makes a good shorter alternative. After the walk, Zhilin and Kiwa Cafe is a local stop with outdoor tables.

When to go

Early morning is the pick, cooler for dogs and quieter on the trail. Weekends draw trail runners and family groups from mid morning, and summer middays are best avoided with a dog.
