PCYC CAFE WAITARA\ HORNSBY

PCYC Cafe Waitara/Hornsby, known locally as the Blue Star Cafe, is the community cafe inside the PCYC Hornsby Ku-ring-gai complex at 1 Park Lane, Waitara. It is open to the public from 6:30am daily, pouring reasonably priced barista coffee and serving a healthy, seasonal menu alongside hot breakfast classics, light lunches and pastries.

The dog setup

This one calls for a check on arrival. The cafe runs inside a multi-purpose sports and community facility, so indoor seating is out for dogs apart from assistance animals. The workable spot is the outdoor tables near the entrance and walkway, which locals use with leashed dogs. There is no formal published dog policy to point to, so treat it as a casual, low-stakes stop rather than a sure thing: bring a short lead, keep your dog settled beside the table, and pack a portable water bowl since one is not guaranteed.

The vibe

It is a genuine community hub, mixing PCYC members, parents between classes and local workers. The food leans healthy and seasonal, and the coffee gets a strong word of mouth, as do specials like Vienna hot chocolates and Biscoff lattes. Thursday nights run latest at 8pm; every other day the doors close at 7pm.

Getting there and parking

Onsite parking is limited, so fall back on street parking along Park Lane. Waitara station is roughly 200 metres away on foot, and the complex sits just off the Pacific Highway, which makes it a practical stop on a Sydney north-west run.

Close by with the dogs

For guaranteed off-leash time, Hornsby Dog Park in Hornsby Heights is a fully fenced space with double gates, water stations and a small-dog enclosure, a short drive up Galston Road. Asquith Park Fenced Dog Park is another fenced option one suburb north. Neighbour cafe Jamie's Kitchen Coffee and Food is a known dog-friendly fallback in Waitara if the tables are full.
