NICHE MOSMAN CAFE

Niche Mosman is a neighbourhood cafe and bistro at 5/713-715 Military Road, running breakfast and lunch through the day and European-style tapas in the evening. The street-side outdoor tables welcome dogs, which makes it an easy break mid-walk on the Mosman strip.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor seating on Military Road, on lead and clear of the foot traffic, which on this strip is constant. Indoors is people only. Staff are accommodating and will usually bring a water bowl on request, but pack your own to be safe. This suits a confident dog that handles a busy footpath; a nervous dog will be happier at one of the quieter pocket cafes off the main road.

The menu

The kitchen has a modern Australian brunch line with a twist: chilli scrambled eggs are the dish people order again, alongside truffled scrambled eggs, hotcakes and a smoked salmon stack. From late afternoon the room switches to small plates and tapas, which is the quieter end of the day to visit with a dog at your feet.

Worth knowing

Hours run 6:30am to 3:30pm most days, with a later 5:30pm close on Thursdays for the tapas service. Parking on Military Road is timed and tight, so use the Myahgah Road council car park and walk in. Plenty of buses run along the strip if you are coming from the city side.

Close by with the dogs

Note that dogs are banned from Balmoral Beach itself under Mosman Council rules, so the Balmoral Beach to the Spit walk is an on-lead one. The designated leash-free option is Mosman's off-leash area. Nearby, Chaos Cafe is another strip option that takes dogs outside.
