Chaos Cafe

Chaos Cafe is a busy, heavily styled brunch spot on the Neutral Bay end of the Mosman strip, leafy and eclectic, and it takes dogs at the footpath tables out front. It suits a casual stop with the dog rather than a long indoor sit-down, and the weekend crowd is a mix of locals, brunch parties and dog walkers threading down towards Middle Harbour.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor footpath seating along the front; the indoor dining area is people-only under NSW food rules. Water bowls are generally around, but carry your own portable bowl to be safe. Keep your dog on lead and clear of the path, because the footway is genuinely busy on weekends with prams and passers-by. If the front tables are full, staff will usually tell you honestly how long the wait is rather than squeezing you in.

Worth knowing

The look is the hook, greenery and flowers throughout, but the kitchen holds its own: knafeh French toast and acai bowls for the sweet-toothed, lamb salad, corn fritters and a bacon and egg roll for everyone else, plus fresh juices and smoothies. Hours are 6am to 3:30pm daily, from 7am Sundays, so it covers the pre-work coffee crowd and the late-morning brunch rush alike. Saturday mid-morning is the busiest window with the dog in tow.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on the Military Road corridor at the Neutral Bay end of Mosman, with metered parking on the surrounding streets and the B1 bus corridor a short walk away. Parking is the main friction point on weekends, so walking in with the dog is often easier than driving.

Close by with the dogs

For exercise either side of brunch, Mosman Off Leash Dog Area is the suburb's designated off-lead space, and the Balmoral Beach to The Spit walk is one of Sydney's better harbour-side routes. Further along the strip, Don Adan's Coffee Tree and The Espresso Room are other local dog-friendly coffee options.
