Sweet Adeline on The Grange

Sweet Adeline on The Grange sets up in the gardens of Barwon Grange, the 1855 National Trust property at 25 Fernleigh Street in Newtown, Geelong. It is the second outpost of the Sweet Adeline caravan cafe family, run from a vintage caravan and trading on weekends only. The garden setting is roomy, green and genuinely pretty, and it is what makes the place work so easily with a dog in tow.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome across the outdoor garden, with seating near the sandpit, beside the van and in the art alley. Keep your dog on a lead at all times, both out of courtesy to the heritage grounds and because the space is shared with families and kids. Water bowls turn up but the setup is rustic, so packing a portable bowl is the safe play.

Worth knowing

Expect La Madre bakery sourdough and pastries, organic blend coffee and specialty teas, served al fresco with jazz drifting through the garden. Hours are weekend-only, roughly 8am to 2pm Saturday and Sunday, and the caravan format means weather closures happen, so a quick check of their Facebook before you drive out saves a wasted trip. On a fine weekend the garden fills early.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is available on Fernleigh Street and the surrounding residential streets, with the cafe inside the Barwon Grange grounds a short walk from the kerb. Newtown sits just west of central Geelong, so the detour is small from anywhere in town.

Close by with the dogs

The Barwon River paths run right past the property, and the Barwon River trail is the natural pairing for a riverside walk before or after coffee. For off-lead time, Wilsonson Heights Dog Park is the suburb's dedicated space, and Mrs Isabella Hills Rest Area adds a quieter green option. For a weekday coffee when the caravan is dark, Barmuda holds down the Newtown cafe scene.
