Wilsonson Heights Dog Park

The dog park at Wilsonton Heights Park is Toowoomba's big fenced run: roughly 2.6 hectares of fully fenced off-leash ground at 1 Clearview Street, open 24 hours, with agility equipment, mature shade trees and enough lawn for a dog to actually gallop rather than trot in circles. Toowoomba Regional Council manages the park, which also serves the neighbourhood with a playground, skate and bike track and outdoor exercise gear alongside the dog area.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies inside the fenced dog area, but council still requires effective voice control at all times, even within the fence. Close the gate immediately behind you going in and out. Dogs must be registered with Toowoomba Regional Council, and dangerous, menacing or on-heat dogs are not permitted. Bins are provided for waste. A dedicated agility section gives training structure, and pathways link the run to the rest of the park.

Worth knowing

Shade is limited across the open lawn, and the 11am to 2pm sun sits hard on the ground in summer, so keep middle-of-the-day visits short in the warm months. It is a family park as much as a dog park, so expect bikes and scooters on the shared paths at the fence line. The Wilsonton Shopping Centre about five minutes away has cafes with outdoor seating for the after-park stop.

Max: it is a big fenced area, but a gap is a gap. Test the latch behind you before your dog tests it from the other side.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 1 Clearview Street in the Wilsonton Heights area of Toowoomba's north-west, with street parking on Clearview Street. Local TransLink bus routes serve the Wilsonton and Newtown side of the city if you are not driving.

When to go

Weekend mornings between 8am and 10am draw the biggest crowd and the most playmates for a social dog. Mid-week mornings or early afternoons are quieter and better for one-on-one training or a nervous dog.
