Black Gully Reserve Path

Black Gully Reserve winds through Newtown and Rockville in Toowoomba, and it is one of the few walks in town that mixes on-lead paths with a stretch where dogs can run free.

Leads and the off-lead area

Toowoomba Regional Council has made the section of Black Gully between Tor Street and Holberton Street an unfenced off-lead area. Keep dogs on lead on the shared paths outside it.

Next door, Clearview Street Park has a fenced off-lead area of about 1.5 acres, with water fountains and dog bowls.

The walk

Paved shared paths run beside mown grass, bushland patches and the natural creek bed. Mature trees and dense planting along the gully give shade, and you pass an outdoor gym and disc golf baskets.

Street parking serves the Clearview Street and reserve access points.

Pepsi: Start at the fenced Clearview Street area for a drink and a run, then do the gully walk once the zoomies are out.

When to go

The shade along the gully makes it a sound warm-weather choice. It suits dogs with reliable recall that enjoy some freedom on the unfenced section.
