Newtown Park Rose Garden Walk

The Queensland State Rose Garden is the reason to come: thousands of heritage roses inside Newtown Park in Toowoomba, with paved paths that welcome dogs on lead.

Lead rules

Newtown Park is an on-lead area under Toowoomba Regional Council rules. Keep your dog on lead the whole time you are in the park and the garden.

The walk

Accessible paved paths run through the rose beds, with a few grassy and uneven patches. Historic avenues of mature trees, laid out in a Union Jack pattern, shade much of the way.

Bins are spread across the park, and there is water in the grounds, though a portable bowl makes life easier. Street parking and small parking areas sit around the edge, off Taylor Street.

Make a day of it

Early-opening cafes make a morning walk and breakfast easy. De Dutch Cafe is the Newtown option, and Wilsonson Heights Dog Park is there for off-lead time.

When to go

The flat, well-kept paths suit dogs and owners of most mobility levels. Bring a calm, polite dog: the roses are the attraction here, not a run.
