Kita

Kita is a small, eclectic cafe at the Narrabundah shops on Boolimba Crescent, known in Canberra as much for its late-night hours as its Indonesian-leaning menu, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard. It is one of the few places in the capital where a dog can plausibly join you for laksa at midnight.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in Kita's refurbished outdoor courtyard, which is sunny and comfortable, but not inside the main dining room. Keep dogs leashed and close since the courtyard is shared with other diners, and bring your own water bowl as one is not guaranteed to be put out. The courtyard's mood swings with the crowd: sleepy on weekend mornings, lively late on Friday and Saturday nights.

The vibe

The menu leans Indonesian comfort food: soto ayam, mie goreng, gado gado, nasi goreng and curries, alongside solid coffee. Kita runs genuinely late, often into the early hours Wednesday to Saturday, with a relaxed, bohemian feel that suits night owls. Hours do shift, so confirm before a late arrival or an early weekend morning run.

Getting there and parking

Kita sits within the small Narrabundah local shops, with free, non-metered street parking right out front. It is an easy stop by car, or on foot if you are staying nearby; the Narrabundah streets around it are quiet enough for a pre-coffee leg-stretch.

Close by with the dogs

Narrabundah Oval is close by and a popular local walk before or after coffee, and the Kingston foreshore is a few minutes' drive with its own reserves and park dogs. The suburb sits handy to both the Inner South shops and the Fyshwick side of town.
