Act caravan park

Canberra Holiday Village, formerly Southside Village, is a budget-friendly caravan park on Canberra Avenue in Symonston, a short drive from Fyshwick and the city centre. It is a genuinely dog-friendly base for a Canberra trip, with pet-friendly sites and cabins available, though you need to book the right spot rather than assume any site will do.

Dogs at the village

Dogs are allowed on selected powered and unpowered sites and in specific pet-friendly cabins, not across the whole property, so tell the park you are travelling with a dog when you book and confirm it before you arrive. Some breeds may be restricted, so mention the breed at booking. Dogs must stay on a leash anywhere within the park grounds and owners are expected to clean up straight away. There are grassy open areas suited to a stretch and a toilet break, but this is a caravan park rather than a fenced dog park, so do not expect off-leash space on site.

The place

A practical, no-frills southside base rather than a destination in itself, with a camp kitchen, laundry, and an on-site tavern for a meal after a day out. Fyshwick's shopping strip, Majura Park and the big-box retailers are all a short drive away, which makes it convenient for a working trip or a supply stop as much as a holiday.

Getting there and parking

The park sits directly off Canberra Avenue, which runs straight through to Fyshwick and the city. On-site parking is free and sites generally have space for a car alongside the caravan or cabin.

While you're out there

Narrabundah Wetlands is about 450 metres away and makes a quiet on-lead stroll. For coffee, ONA Coffee House in Fyshwick and Kita in Narrabundah both have dog-friendly outdoor seating nearby.
