Canberra Holiday Village

Canberra Holiday Village is a caravan park and cabin stay at 31 Saxon Street, Symonston, a quiet pocket a few minutes south of Manuka and Kingston with free onsite parking. Dogs are welcome in selected pet-friendly rooms and on designated grass camping sites, and pets stay free, which makes this one of the more affordable dog options in Canberra. The catch is that only part of the park is set up for dogs, so the request happens at booking.

Dogs at the village

Pet-friendly rooms and unpowered grass camping sites are set aside for guests travelling with dogs, and you need to contact the property directly to request one when booking rather than assuming at the gate. Pets cannot be left unattended in accommodation, dogs must be supervised at all times on the property, and extra cleaning or damage fees apply if a pet marks a room. Dogs are not allowed inside non-pet-friendly rooms. Tell reception you have a dog at booking time so a designated site or room is actually allocated.

Max: pets stay free here, but only in the rooms that allow them. One phone call at booking sorts it, one at the gate might not.

Worth knowing

The park runs to clean shared amenities, hot showers and BBQ areas with a laid-back, no-fuss feel rather than a resort one. Water is available near the camping sites, though you should bring your own bowl. It is a budget base for road-trippers, and guests regularly mention the traffic noise that comes with the location near major roads, worth weighing if your dog startles at trucks.

Close by with the dogs

Kingston View Drive fenced dog park is the closest proper off-lead run, a few minutes away on the way to Lake Burley Griffin. The open ovals of Narrabundah next door suit an on-lead evening walk. For coffee, Kita in Narrabundah is nearby, and Brodburger at Fyshwick is the easy dinner run. If you prefer a cabin with a desk instead of a park cabin, Abode Kingston is the hotel fallback in Kingston.
