Errol Kavanagh Memorial Oval

Errol Kavanagh Memorial Oval on Kyeema Street in Narrabundah is a sheltered patch of grass, bordered on three sides by poplar-lined Mill Creek and by high fencing on the fourth. When no organised sport is on, dogs can exercise off lead across the open ground.

Leads and sport

Under ACT Government rules, dogs can be off lead on the oval only when it is not being used for formal sport such as baseball or soccer. During matches they must stay off the playing surface entirely.

Keep your dog under effective control at all times, and have the lead on as you come in from the street.

The walk

A grass and earth loop runs around the field. The shallow, wooded creek edges give dogs plenty to sniff, and the fencing and creek lines keep the space set back from busy roads.

Getting started

Park on Kyeema Street beside the oval. There are bins near the car park, and public toilets at the Narrabundah shops on Iluka Street.

Make a day of it

Finish with a coffee at Kita in Narrabundah or Sweet Little Cafe in Griffith.

Check whether a game is on before you let go. Outside match times, it suits ball chasers and dogs that love a long sniff along a creek.
