Tayzies

Tayzies is a coffee-and-kitchen spot set inside a plant nursery on Coolamon Scenic Drive, just out of central Mullumbimby. Fittingly for a cafe named after a dog, it is one of the most openly dog-welcoming breakfast stops around Byron shire - the whole appeal is a leisurely brunch eaten among the foliage with your dog settled at your feet.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, which sits among the nursery greenery under shade cover. The rules are simple: lead on as you move through the garden, and bring your own bowl for water, since supply is not guaranteed on busy mornings. The setting is relaxed rather than fenced, so a calm dog does best here - there are plants, paths and other visitors' dogs threading between tables.

The food and the hours

The kitchen keeps a short, rotating breakfast and brunch menu that leans plant-forward, with strong vegetarian and vegan coverage. Miso mushrooms, focaccia and eggs benedict are the plates regulars name, the dandy latte is the house coffee quirk, and the beans come from Old Quarter. Hours are 7am to 1pm every day, with the kitchen winding up at 12:30pm, and the cafe closes on public holidays. Do not plan a 2pm coffee here - it is a strictly morning operation.

Getting there

The nursery sits on Coolamon Scenic Drive a few minutes out of the Mullumbimby town centre, with free onsite parking plus street parking nearby. The town's off-lead run at Mullumbimby Off Leash Dog Park makes a good warm-up before brunch. Back in town, other dog-friendly tables are at Lulu's Cafe, The Other Joint and The Paddock Project.
