Mullumbimby Off Leash Dog Park

Mullumbimby's fenced off-leash dog park sits at 156 Stuart Street, close to the skate park and community gardens on the edge of the town centre, and it is open around the clock. The draw is the setup: a roughly 5,000 square metre fenced area with separate secured yards for small and large dogs, so you can pick the right enclosure and let your dog run without second-guessing the fence line.

The rules

Dogs run off-leash inside the fenced enclosures but must stay under effective control, with owners remaining in the area. Keep them on-lead within 10 metres of the children's playground elsewhere in the precinct. Bags and bins are provided, and any dog that turns aggressive should be leashed and taken straight out of the yard. The park was delivered as stage one of a council project funded through a federal community infrastructure grant, and the newer fencing and entrances show it.

What is there

Byron Shire Council's build includes secure perimeter fencing with double-gate entries at both yards, drinking fountains and dog bowls on site, and bench seating, with Mount Chincogan as a backdrop from the open grass. Tree plantings are still filling in, so shade is patchy, and on hot afternoons early morning or evening is the smarter visit.

Max: shade is the one gap here while the new trees grow in. Bring water, aim for early or late in summer, and use the double gates properly at both ends of your visit.

Getting there and parking

The park is off Stuart Street in central Mullumbimby, an easy walk from the main street. Street parking along Stuart Street and near the entrance is generally straightforward.

When to go

Saturday mornings and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are the busy social windows. For a quieter run, try weekday mornings, Sunday afternoon or a Monday evening.

Close by with the dogs

Lulu's Cafe on Dalley Street and the Heaps Good Food Store on Burringbar Street both take dogs at their outdoor tables for a coffee after the run.
