Heaps Good Food Store

Heaps Good Food Store is a health-focused food store and cafe at 65 Burringbar Street in the middle of Mullumbimby, and dogs join you at the front footpath tables that sit right on the main street. It opens 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 10am to 2pm on Saturday, and closes Sunday.

The dog setup

The outdoor tables on the Burringbar Street footpath are the dog zone; the indoor space is small and not set up for pets. Staff often bring a water bowl out, but pack your own to be safe, and keep your dog on lead on the footpath. The strip seating makes for good people-watching while you wait, and weekday mornings are the quietest time to land a table with a dog.

The food

The kitchen is known for house-made bone broths and a rotating line of daily hot pots, with recent rotations running from beef to spicy yellow chicken curry and vegan variations. The menu leans organic and seasonal: wholesome sandwiches, salads, smoothies and fresh juices, plus warm wellness drinks. Free-range, hormone-free meats go into the savoury cooking, and the cake cabinet is strong, with gluten-free and dairy-free options and custom cakes to order. Coffee is well rated, and the grocery shelves stock local organic produce if you want to take something home.

Getting there and the dog run before coffee

Free street parking runs along Burringbar Street and the side streets, and the cafe is walkable from anywhere in town. The fenced Mullumbimby Off Leash Dog Park on Stuart Street has separate small and large dog enclosures over about 5,000 square metres, so an off-lead session there pairs well with a later breakfast. The Paddock Project and The Other Joint are other Mullum stops that welcome dogs, and the South Golden Beach Dog Beach is about 15 minutes north for a sand session.
