The Other Joint

The Other Joint is a busy local cafe at 72 Burringbar Street in Mullumbimby's town centre, and the shaded back garden is what makes it work for dog owners. Bring your dog around to the rear courtyard and you get umbrellas, room to settle, and a coffee that locals rate highly.

The dog setup

The rear garden and courtyard is the dog-friendly zone, reached easily from the back carpark rather than the street front, which keeps dogs away from the busiest footpath. It is shaded, with dog bowls usually on hand, though bringing your own water is the safe play. Keep your dog on a lead; the garden is shared space and it fills with locals through the morning.

The vibe and the menu

The room is casual and unfussy, with couch areas out the back doing steady business alongside the courtyard tables. The kitchen turns out solid brunch plates: bacon and egg rolls, eggs benedict, omelettes and fresh juices, with coffee and friendly service as the steady draws. It runs 8am to 1:30pm weekdays and 8am to midday Saturdays, and it is closed Sundays, so plan the dog morning accordingly.

Getting there and parking

Find it on Burringbar Street in the middle of Mullumbimby, with parking at the rear of the cafe, which doubles as the easiest entry with a dog. Mullumbimby is about 20 minutes north of Byron Bay and a short hop from Brunswick Heads.

Close by with the dogs

Run the dog first at the Mullumbimby off-leash dog park, or head to the Brunswick Heads dog exercise area for a beach leg. The Paddock Project is another dog-friendly garden cafe in town.
