The Burrow Cafe

The Burrow Cafe sits inside the Heffron Centre on Bunnerong Road, the South Sydney Rabbitohs performance centre at 417-439 Bunnerong Road, Maroubra, and it has become the local walk-and-coffee stop for the eastern end of the suburb. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, and the surrounding parkland means a coffee here slots naturally into a big lap of the neighbourhood.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, which is often busy with other local dog owners, and staff will usually bring a water bowl out. Keep your dog on lead and settled beside the table, as the cafe fronts the centre's foot traffic. It runs early for breakfast and through to lunch, so it works as the mid-walk stop rather than a destination in itself.

The food

The menu leans on Deluca coffee, egg-based brunch dishes, sandwiches, acai bowls and house-baked treats, with catering on the side. It is a relaxed, family-friendly, community-leaning cafe rather than a fine-dining room, and reviewers consistently point at the baristas and food quality. Hours are 6:30am to 3pm weekdays and 7am to 2:30pm on weekends.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is available on Bunnerong Road and the nearby residential streets, and local buses run along Bunnerong Road for anyone arriving without a car. The cafe is inside the Heffron Centre complex, so head for the centre entrance and look for the outdoor tables.

Nearby with the dogs

Heffron Park itself wraps around the centre, and dogs are welcome on lead, but note it is not a designated off-leash area and dogs are barred from sports fields and playgrounds under Randwick Council rules. For a coastal leg-stretch, the Coogee to Maroubra beach walk is a short drive west. For off-lead time, the Sir Joseph Banks Park Fenced Dog Park sits just across the border in Botany.
