nowness espresso bar is a small, serious coffee shop on Anzac Parade near Sturt Street in Maroubra, and its 5am opening makes it one of the earliest dog-friendly stops in the eastern suburbs. On weekdays and Saturdays the machines are running before first light; Sundays the shutter stays down. Dogs are welcome at the footpath seating out front.

The dog setup

The inside is tight and human-only, so the pavement tables are where you and the dog belong. The footpath is a standard strip setup: leashed, settled beside your chair, with passing foot traffic to tolerate through the morning peak. Water bowls are not a fixed fixture, so bring your own for anything longer than a takeaway stop. It is geared to quick, quality visits rather than long sits.

Worth knowing

The baking is the surprise: goods made fresh, flaky croissants, brownies and a caramel slice with a following, alongside scones and sandwiches for something savoury. The baristas are the other reason for the loyal local crowd, and the coffee is consistently well made. Weekend service ends at 2pm and weekdays at 3:30pm, so plan the dog walk coffee for the morning.

Getting there and parking

Anzac Parade carries kerbside parking with time limits, and side streets like Sturt Street offer alternatives, so check the signage. Buses run straight along the parade for anyone arriving on foot with the dog.

Close by with the dogs

The Coogee to North End Maroubra Beach coastal walk is the obvious pairing for a morning here. For a second coffee, Chalk Espresso Bar and The Burrow Cafe are both Maroubra options used to dogs.
