The Old Corner Shop

The Old Corner Shop is a hole-in-the-wall coffee stop on the corner of Victoria Avenue and Dunbar Street in Margate, a couple of minutes' walk from the Redcliffe Peninsula foreshore. It opens at 5:30am on weekdays, and with pavement seating that takes dogs plus a dedicated dog water station out front, it is built for lead-side stops on a waterfront walk.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath seating out front, and this one goes further than most: a dog re-fuelling station with water sits at the cafe, so the bowl problem is solved before you ask. There is no indoor seating for dogs, and the space is a quick-stop layout rather than a lingering brunch room, which suits a dog happy to settle for twenty minutes on the lead.

Worth knowing

The coffee and the bagels are the draw, with the breaky bagel a local order and banana bread for the sweet tooth. Macadamia milk is on the shelf, gluten-free options are covered, and the staff have a bubbly reputation. Hours run 5:30am to 1pm weekdays, from 6:30am Saturday and 7am Sunday, closing at midday Sunday, so this is strictly a morning stop.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is generally available on Victoria Avenue and the side streets, and the cafe sits right on the Margate waterfront strip, so it slots into a boardwalk walk rather than requiring a detour.

While you're out there

Clarks Beach and the coastal path are steps away, with the paved route running on towards Redcliffe for a longer stroll. For off-lead play, Dru Point Fenced Dog Park is close by, and Appelflap Cafe is the suburb's other dog-friendly coffee stop.
