Le Cafe on St George

Le Cafe on St George is a small, character-filled cafe at 39 Ann Street, East Launceston, in a leafy residential pocket just off the St Georges Square end of town. It does serious coffee and a proper all-day kitchen for its size, and the outdoor tables out front take dogs, which makes it a dependable mid-walk coffee stop in one of Launceston's most walkable neighbourhoods.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, leashed and settled, while the compact interior stays for people. Water bowl availability varies, so carry a portable bowl. The footpath setting means other patrons and prams pass close by, so a short lead and a dog that stays put matter more than usual here. It suits the well-socialised dog; a reactive one will find the narrow footpath trying.

Worth knowing

Coffee is the headline, backed by a solid brunch-and-lunch kitchen: breakfast plates, fresh daily salads, wraps, gourmet toasted sandwiches and house-made lunch specials from 11:00 am, plus a rotating sweets cabinet that regulars rate, carrot cake and almond croissants included. Hours run roughly 7:00 am to late afternoon on weekdays, from 8:00 am weekends, with Sunday finishing earlier, so confirm on the day for a late-afternoon plan.

Getting there and parking

Street parking on Ann Street and the surrounding residential blocks is free but limited, and it thins out at school pickup times. The better approach is on foot: the cafe sits an easy stroll from the city end of East Launceston, and the surrounding grid of quiet streets is made for a lead walk that starts and ends at a table.

While you're out there

For off-lead time, Hoblers Bridge Reserve Fenced Dog Park in neighbouring Newstead is the closest fenced option, a bushland enclosure along the North Esk River with water taps and bowls at the gate. Coronation Park Fenced Dog Park covers the southern side of town, and Aroma's Cafe is another dog-friendly cafe toward the CBD.
