Alchemy on Victoria

Alchemy on Victoria is a relaxed cafe at 54 Victoria Street in central Dubbo, running brunch through to Italian-style wood-fired pizza in a leafy garden setting. It is one of the more pleasant places in town to sit down with your dog, because the dog space is a genuine garden courtyard rather than a strip of footpath along a main road.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor garden area, on leash, and that is the part of the venue to plan around: the indoor dining is not for pets. The greenery and courtyard layout give you room to tuck a dog beside the table out of the foot traffic, and staff are used to canine visitors, with water bowls usually on hand. Carry your own bowl as a backstop on a busy day. The garden also makes this workable in warmer weather, when a hot footpath would not be.

Worth knowing

The kitchen covers a lot of ground: organic coffee and brunch in the morning, then a menu that leans Mediterranean-Australian, wood-fired pizzas, Thai-influenced dishes and a steak sandwich that gets ordered often, with gluten-free options available. A deli counter selling local and imported produce, cheeses and meats runs alongside. It opens Wednesday to Sunday, 8am to 3pm, and closes Monday and Tuesday, so it is a midweek-visit cafe by definition.

Getting there and parking

Victoria Street sits close to Dubbo's city centre, with street parking along the block and an easy walk in from the main shopping precinct if you are staying in town with the dog.

Pair it with

Victoria Park is close by for a pre- or post-meal stroll on the lead, and for a proper leg-stretch the Tracker Riley Cycleway runs along the Macquarie River with paved paths that suit an on-lead walk.
