What visitors mention
The Tracker Riley Cycleway is Dubbo's main riverside path, a sealed shared trail of around 13km that follows the Macquarie River from the CBD out to the Western Plains Zoo and the historic Dundullimal Homestead. It is the go-to walk in town for a dog, with river scenery, native birdlife and shade for much of the way.
The rules. Dogs are welcome but stay on-lead along the shared path and on public roads. Off-leash is not permitted here; for a run, the council points to nearby spots like Devil's Hole at the lower end of Brisbane Street, or the fenced South Dubbo Park. Pick up after your dog; fines apply for not doing so. Keep dogs out of the fenced sporting ovals.
The walk. Fully sealed and flat, good for walking, running and prams alike, with shorter sections if you do not want the full loop. Benches and picnic tables with river views are dotted along the route, with water points near the picnic spots, bins at access points, and public toilets at major points like Elizabeth Park and the zoo end.
Getting there. Main entries are from the CBD on Macquarie Street, Dundullimal Homestead and the Emile Serisier Bridge. Parking sits near the Dubbo Golf Course, Dundullimal Homestead and the riverside city car parks. The local bus network reaches the CBD and zoo ends.
Nearby with the dogs. CBD cafes with outdoor seating sit at the eastern end, and pet-friendly motels and caravan parks cluster along Whylandra Street near the zoo end.

Best early morning or late afternoon, especially in summer heat, and away from the busy CBD and weir sections on weekends. Good for steady on-leash walkers and runners who want distance.
