The dog run and courtyard are the real difference-maker for travellers on the Mitchell Highway with a dog in the back.

Close by with the dogs

The Tracker Riley Cycleway runs a long shared path along the Macquarie River for a proper on-leash walk, and the fenced enclosures at Buckingham Dog Park and South Dubbo Park give a secure run. Taronga Western Plains Zoo is a five-minute drive, but dogs cannot enter the zoo and cannot be left in vehicles on zoo grounds, so plan pet-minding ahead if the zoo is the point of the trip.
