Buckingham Dog Park

Buckingham Dog Park is an off leash green space on Buckingham Drive in residential south east Dubbo. It is an open, largely unfenced run on natural grass rather than a sealed yard, which shapes who it suits: a dog with reliable recall that wants room to stretch close to home.

The dog setup

Dubbo Regional Council lists this as a leash-free area, with dogs off lead inside the designated zone but under effective voice control at all times. The borders are open, so the recall requirement is not a formality. The listing shows hours of 9am to 5pm across weekdays and Saturday, with Sunday listed as closed, so time your visit inside those windows.

House rules are standard for Dubbo's off leash parks: bring your own waste bags and bin them, keep off lead use inside the designated area rather than nearby sporting ovals, and bring a dog that is vaccinated and sociable with others.

Worth knowing

Amenities are basic: a large natural grass run, seating and waste bins. There is no fence, no agility equipment and no dedicated water station, so pack your own water and bowl. If your dog ignores you near other dogs or a passing car, a long lead here or a trip to a fully fenced park is the safer call.

Max: No fence, so this is a recall test, not a free-for-all. Ours did fine, but we kept the long lead clipped on until she settled.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on Buckingham Drive in the residential streets south east of the CBD, reached via arterials such as Wheelers Lane. On street parking runs along Buckingham Drive itself. A car is the practical way in; there is no station nearby.

Weekday mid mornings and early afternoons are the quiet stretches. Weekends and the before and after work windows draw the regulars, so if your dog is still building social skills, aim for the calm hours.
