NRMA Dubbo Holiday Park

The NRMA Dubbo Holiday Park on the Macquarie River side of Dubbo is one of the more genuinely dog-equipped parks in regional NSW: three of its two-bedroom cabins come with a fenced yard and a kennel, so your dog gets its own space instead of a tether. It is a short drive from Taronga Western Plains Zoo, which makes it a common base for the zoo run.

Dogs are welcome on powered grass sites and selected slab sites, and in the three designated pet-friendly cabins. Pets stay free on sites. Cabin stays carry a pet fee of $30 for the first night, covering up to two pets, then $10 per pet per night after that. Every pet must be registered at check-in and up to date with vaccinations, and the cap is two pets per booking.

Inside the pet cabins, dogs are allowed but keep off the beds and lounges. Elsewhere in the park they stay on lead, must never be left unattended, whether inside the cabin or tied up outside, and a dedicated leash-free exercise area near the jumping pillow gives them a proper run. The fenced yards are the real draw, since you can leave the door open without planning an escape route.

The place

Beyond the pet cabins there is a pool, BBQ areas, a camp kitchen and the usual family facilities, including a jumping pillow. Only three cabins take pets and they go quickly in zoo-trip season, so book well ahead. This suits travellers who want their dog to have a yard rather than a leash for the whole stay.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 18 Alfred Street, Dubbo, near the river end of town. Parking is generous, with room for cars, caravans and boats right at the sites, and drive-through sites are among the options.

Close by with the dogs

The Tracker Riley Cycleway and the Macquarie River walking tracks are close by for a proper leg stretch, and Buckingham Dog Park is an option for an off-lead session away from the park.
