Hope Road - Espresso bar

Hope Road Espresso Bar brings Brazilian coffee culture to central Coffs Harbour, trading from 31 Park Avenue with doors open 6:30am weekdays and 7am Saturdays, closing early afternoon and Sundays. It is a small, colourful room with a devoted following among locals who know their coffee, and dogs are welcome at the alfresco seating out front, which makes it one of the easier central stops for a coffee with the lead still clipped on from the morning walk.

Dogs join you in the outdoor alfresco area; the interior is small and cosy and really only works for humans. The street-side tables put you in the middle of a central, walkable block, so expect the odd passerby wanting a pat. There is a welcoming reputation with pet owners, but the venue is compact and does not run a formal dog menu, so bring your own water bowl to be safe on busy mornings. A settled dog suits the space best given how close the tables sit together.

The signature is pao de queijo, the traditional cheese bread that is naturally gluten free and baked fresh to go alongside the espresso, and it is the order that keeps regulars coming back. Acai bowls topped with fresh fruit cover the breakfast side, with tropical smoothies and cold juices for the warm months, and toasties for something savoury. Coffee itself is treated seriously: the long black gets singled out by reviewers, and the bar shows real craft. Everything moves fast here, which suits the morning trade.

Street parking runs along Park Avenue and the neighbouring side streets, generally easy outside peak hours. On foot it sits within walking distance of the Coffs Creek corridor, which matters for the walk-before-coffee crowd.

Close by with the dogs

The Coffs Creek Walk and Cycleway is the natural on-lead route, winding along the creek through shaded reserves. For off-lead time, the North Wall Beach Off-Leash Area covers the sand south of Coffs Creek down to the North Wall, and Thompsons Road Reserve Fenced Dog Park gives a fully enclosed option away from the waves.
