Coffs Creek Walk and Cycleway

Coffs Creek Walk and Cycleway follows the creek from the Jetty and Saltwater Park area through to the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden, right through the middle of Coffs Harbour. The path is flat, paved or boardwalk for most of its length, and dogs are welcome on lead along the whole route except for one clear exception at the far end.

The walk. The full route runs 8.5 km end to end, rated easy, taking most walkers around two to two and a half hours to cover. Shorter loops of 30 to 60 minutes are easy to manage if you just want a stretch of the creek rather than the whole thing. Surface is mostly sealed path and boardwalk through mangrove and wetland reserve, easy on paws, with some dirt track and short road sections mixed in.

The rules. Dogs are permitted on lead along the cycleway, a policy confirmed with City of Coffs Harbour. The one place dogs cannot go is inside the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden itself, where only assistance dogs are permitted. The path runs right up to the garden's carpark and entrance, so if you are walking the full length, plan to turn back or loop around outside the garden boundary rather than heading in.

Water. The creek runs alongside most of the walk and dogs can wade or swim in calmer stretches. Near the estuary mouth the water can move quickly on an outgoing tide.

Hazards. Several sections of the path have no shade at all, so avoid the middle of the day in summer, from December to February. Council dog-waste bag dispensers are placed at points along the route.

Getting there. Free parking is available near the Orlando Street entrance and near the Showground and Jetty area. Local buses serve the surrounding CBD, leaving a short walk to join the path.

Nearby with the dogs. After the walk, the Creekside Cafe sits close to the water for a coffee stop. If you are staying in the area, Reflections Coffs Harbour Holiday Park is nearby, and the Coffs Harbour Dog Off-lead Beach near the Jetty end is worth combining with a shorter creek walk.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon suit this walk best, especially in summer when the exposed sections get hot. Good for casual walkers and cyclists rather than anyone chasing a big off-lead run.
