Marvell St Cafe & Bar

Marvell St Cafe and Bar is a relaxed brunch spot at 3/11 Marvell Street, a short walk from central Byron Bay and the beaches. It makes a real effort for dogs: water bowls and free puppuccinos come out with the welcome, putting it among the more dog-minded tables in town rather than the merely tolerant ones.

The dog setup

Dogs on leads settle in the outdoor seating, where there are enough spots to find one that works for a restless dog. Inside is people-only, with service dogs the usual exception. The team actually engages with the dogs, which changes the feel of the place: bowls appear without asking and treats show up with the coffee.

Pepsi: order the puppuccino, it is free and the staff love bringing it. This is an easy mid-morning table rather than a race for the earliest seat.

The vibe

Casual coastal brunch with consistent coffee and matcha, a popular eggs benedict and the signature Marvell Roll, plus live music on occasion. Hours run from 7am with food winding down around 1pm weekdays and 1:30pm weekends, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch cafe rather than an all-day proposition.

Getting there and parking

Marvell Street is walkable from the town centre, which is usually the better option: on-street parking around Marvell gets competitive in peak tourist times. Cycling or walking in from nearby accommodation leaves the stress out of it.

Take the lead to the Belongil Beach South Dog Exercise Area for off-lead sand time, or drive south to the Tallow Beach Dog Exercise Area at Suffolk Park. Otherside Cafe in the industrial estate and The Roadhouse on Bangalow Road are the other dog-friendly outdoor tables worth knowing.
