The Roadhouse is a rustic cafe and eatery on Bangalow Road, set away from the busy town centre on the road in from the highway. It is strongly dog-friendly, with a shaded terrace and courtyard, and it has the real bonus of a free on-site car park, which is rare in Byron.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, the sprawling shaded terrace and the front courtyard, both wrapped in greenery. Keep dogs on the terrace and out of the indoor service area, on lead and close to your table so staff can move around the busy floor. Water bowls are usually available and the staff are good with dogs.

Good to know. It is known for the old-Byron feel, strong coffee and a creative brunch, with wood-fired pizzas and cocktails in the evenings from Wednesday to Saturday. It works for a chilled morning or a relaxed dinner away from the centre.

Getting there. The address is 142 Bangalow Rd, on the approach from the Pacific Highway. The free on-site car park is the standout, though it fills on weekend mornings, so come a little early on a Sunday.

Nearby with the dogs. Tallow Beach on the Suffolk Park side, with off-lead areas, is a short drive for a post-breakfast run, and the local streets nearby suit a shorter on-lead walk.

The free car park plus a shaded terrace makes this the easy-mode dog brunch; do Tallow Beach after for the zoomies.

Arrive before the weekend rush for a terrace table and a park, then drive five minutes to Tallow for the run.
