The lead. Little Poppy's Kitchen is a small, popular cafe on the corner of Sandgate Road and North Road in Brighton, a handy stop when you are walking the bayside with the dog. It runs on house-made baking and coffee, and the outdoor tables are where dogs sit.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the footpath seating out the front, not inside. The staff are used to canine regulars, and puppuccinos are on the go for the four-legged half of the table. Bring your own water bowl in warmer weather in case the ones out front are in use.

Getting there. On-street parking is usually available along North Road and the residential streets around it, though it tightens up at peak breakfast times. It is an easy detour off a Brighton foreshore walk.

Nearby with the dogs. The Brighton foreshore and its bayside paths are within walking distance, so you can stretch the legs before or after coffee, or carry on towards Sandgate and Shorncliffe.

When to go. Come mid-morning on a weekday if you want a quieter footpath table, or get in early on the weekend before the queue builds.
