Toogom 02 Beach Access

Toogoom 02 is an access point near the Shellcot Street and Moreton Street end of the Toogoom foreshore, within the suburb's designated off-leash beach. It is a tranquil, sandy stretch with shallow water, generally quiet and uncrowded compared with the bigger tourist beaches nearby.

The rules. The 24-hour off-leash zone runs from the pathway between 54 and 56 Shellcot Street to Ries Road, so confirm you are inside the marked section before letting your dog off. Dogs must stay under effective control and respond to recall, and all droppings must be removed. New signed shorebird protection areas and seasonal limits are expected on the Fraser Coast later in 2026, and dog-free zones are monitored, so read the signage on site.

The water and sand. The water recedes a long way at low tide to leave large safe sand flats for running, while higher tide is better for swimming. Mostly sandy trails lead through the dunes to the shoreline.

What's there. Open sand, ocean and shady coastal trees along the dune line. Facilities are limited, with street parking along Shellcot Street and Moreton Street. Local beach convenience stores are close by. Bring your own water for your dog.

Getting there. The access is off Shellcot Street, about 15 to 20 minutes north of Hervey Bay, with on-street parking near the access path. Public transport directly to the access is limited, so drive.

Nearby with the dogs. Goody's On The Beach (54 Moreton Street) offers alfresco dining and welcomes dogs, and Salty at Toogoom (67 Moreton Street) takes dogs in its garden. Serenity Caravan Park (39 Moreton Street) is nearby for a longer stay.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon for the most open space, on a higher tide if you want a swim or low tide for running. Weekend mornings draw local dog walkers.
