Toogom 02 Beach Access

Toogom 02 is a beach access point near the Shellcot Street and Moreton Street end of the Toogoom foreshore, sitting inside the suburb's 24-hour off-leash beach zone. It is a quiet, sandy stretch with shallow water that stays calmer than the bigger tourist beaches further down the Fraser Coast.

The dog setup

The off-leash zone runs 24 hours a day from the pathway between 54 and 56 Shellcot Street to Ries Road, so confirm you are inside the marked section before unclipping the lead. Dogs must be under effective control and come back when called, and droppings must be picked up. Outside the zone, standard on-leash and restricted rules apply.

Facilities are minimal: open sand, ocean and shady coastal trees along the dune line, with street parking along Shellcot and Moreton streets. Bring your own water for the dog, since there is no tap at the access.

Max: read the signage on arrival. New shorebird protection areas and seasonal limits are expected on the Fraser Coast in 2026, and dog-free zones are actively monitored.

The water and sand

The tide shapes the session here. Low tide pulls the water a long way out to leave large, safe sand flats that are ideal for running and games, while a higher tide is better for an actual swim. Mostly sandy trails lead through the dunes to the shoreline, so prams and older dogs cope fine.

Getting there

The access is off Shellcot Street, about 15 to 20 minutes north of Hervey Bay, with on-street parking near the access path. Public transport does not reach it, so driving is the only practical option. Local beach convenience stores sit close by for supplies.

While you're out there

Early morning and late afternoon give the most open space, with weekend mornings drawing the local dog-walking crowd. For a dog-friendly meal, Salty at Toogoom takes dogs in its garden, and Serenity Caravan Park nearby covers a longer stay. For a 24-hour off-leash stretch closer to town, the Urangan off-leash dog beach is the pick.
