Toogoom 03 Beach Access

Toogoom 03 is a foreshore access near the Shellcot Street end of Toogoom, a quiet beach hamlet about 15 minutes north of Hervey Bay. It sits inside the suburb's dedicated 24-hour off-leash beach, a mostly undeveloped stretch with wide sand flats at low tide and plenty of room for dogs to run and swim.

The dog setup

The 24-hour off-leash section runs from the access pathway between 54 and 56 Shellcot Street to Ries Road, per Fraser Coast Regional Council, so confirm you are inside that stretch before unclipping. Dogs must be registered and vaccinated, under effective control and returning immediately on command, not a nuisance to other users or wildlife, and droppings binned.

Note the boundaries shift along the coast: the foreshore near the Lorikeet Avenue end runs to a time-share regime instead, off-leash only from 3pm to 8am. Read the signage at your access point every time, and be aware the council's dog plan may add restrictions or dog-free zones from late 2026.

Water and sand

At low tide the sand flats open up enormously and are ideal for running; at high tide the strip narrows to around 30 metres but stays good for swimming. The water is generally shallow, but watch tidal currents, particularly around Beelbi Creek.

Max: plan around the tide. Low tide gives the dog a whole flat to run on, and it is the difference between a decent walk and a great one here.

Getting there and parking

From Hervey Bay, take Booral Road, turn onto Toogoom Road and follow it to Shellcot Street; the access sits near numbers 54 to 56. Public transport is not practical, so drive, and expect limited street parking along the residential road.

Close by with the dogs
