Toogoom 03 Beach Access

Toogoom 03 is an access along the Toogoom foreshore near the Shellcot Street end, part of the suburb's 24-hour off-leash beach. It is a quiet, spacious local spot with wide sand flats at low tide, backed by dunes and coastal shrubbery, with plenty of room for dogs to run, swim and socialise.

The rules. The designated 24-hour off-leash area runs from the beach access pathway between 54 and 56 Shellcot Street to Ries Road, so confirm you are inside that section. Dogs must be under effective control and return immediately on command, must not be a nuisance to other users or wildlife, and droppings must be removed and binned. Dogs should be registered and vaccinated. Stage two of the Fraser Coast plan in late 2026 may add restrictions or dog-free zones, so always check the signs.

The water and sand. At low tide the sand flats are huge and ideal for running. At high tide the sand strip narrows to around 30 metres but is good for swimming. The water is generally shallow, but watch for tidal currents, particularly around Beelbi Creek.

What's there. A mostly undeveloped natural coastal setting with limited shade along the dune line. There is a small water bowl on a pedestal near the entrance path, and waste bins are usually provided at council access points. Street parking along the residential road is limited.

Getting there. From Hervey Bay, take Booral Road, turn onto Toogoom Road and follow it to Shellcot Street, with the access near numbers 54 to 56. Public transport is limited, so drive.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon for cooler temperatures, on a low tide for the most room. Expect other local dogs around 7am to 9am. Good for confident dogs that enjoy company and space.
