What visitors mention
Warnbro Dog Beach is an off-leash stretch along Warnbro Beach Road in Port Kennedy, part of the City of Rockingham's coast. Reef protection keeps the water shallow and calm, so it is one of the safer local beaches for a dog that likes a swim without much swell.
The rules. Dogs are off-leash within the signed zone but must stay under effective voice control, and you are required to carry a leash at all times. Keep clear of prohibited areas such as nesting zones and any playground. Clean up straight away and use the bins provided. During major beach events dogs may be put back on-leash regardless of the usual status, so check the signage on arrival.
The water and sand. The beach is wide, open and sandy, with shallow, clear water thanks to the offshore reef. Tidal swings are gentler here than at exposed Perth beaches, and low tide opens up more firm sand to run on. Seaweed can build up inshore at times, which is normal for this part of Warnbro Sound.
What's there. Facilities are minimal. There are waste bins and bags at the main access points and street parking along Warnbro Beach Road, but shade is limited and there are no drinking fountains on the sand. Bring your own water, especially in summer.
Getting there. It is roughly a 45 to 50 minute drive south of the Perth CBD. Several beach access paths run off Warnbro Beach Road, with the popular dog zones south of the main swimming areas. By public transport, Warnbro Station on the Mandurah line is the nearest rail, then a connecting bus (such as route 558) toward Port Kennedy leaves a walk to the sand.
Nearby with the dogs. Ellie's Cafe on Warnbro Sound Avenue has an al-fresco area and does puppuccinos. For a fenced alternative on a windy day, St Clair Reserve dog park is a short drive inland.

When to go. Early mornings before 9am or late afternoons dodge the heat and the strong afternoon sea breeze. It is rarely crowded even on weekends, with plenty of room to run. Good for dogs that want calm water rather than surf.
