St Raphael Reserve

St Raphael Reserve is a local dog exercise area on St Raphael Crescent in Port Kennedy, south of Rockingham, and part of the City of Rockingham's network of off-leash parks. It is an open, grassy reserve wrapped around a small lake, quiet and family oriented, and it works best for dogs that already have a reliable recall.

The dog setup

The reserve is a designated off-leash area, so dogs can run free while under effective voice control, and handlers still carry a leash and clean up with the bins provided. Nothing is fenced, and the lake edge sits wide open in the middle of it, which is the thing to plan around. Ducks live on the water year round, and bird-keen dogs find that hard to resist, so keep newer dogs on lead near the water until you trust the recall. Check the on-site council signage too, since restrictions can apply when organised sport is running on the reserve.

The vibe

Open field for running, paved and unpaved paths looping the reserve, perimeter trees for shade and shaded gazebos with barbecues for the humans. There are no dog drinking fountains, so bring your own water, and note the lake level drops in dry spells.

The reserve sits on St Raphael Crescent with roadside parking directly alongside. Local buses run along nearby main roads such as Warnbro Sound Avenue, and it is an easy walk for anyone in the surrounding streets. The reserve is open around the clock, though daylight hours are when you will find company.

When to go

Weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons draw the regulars, and weekday mid-morning is the quiet window if your dog needs space to settle.
