Rockingham Dog Beach

Rockingham Dog Beach is the East Rockingham off-leash stretch between Shelton Street and Bent Street, a calm, shallow, white-sand run that stays sheltered enough for nervous swimmers and open enough for a proper fetch session. It is open 24/7, with the sweet spot being weekday mornings before the foreshore crowd arrives.

The rules. The off-leash zone runs strictly between the Shelton Street and Bent Street markers, so check the signage if you are unsure where the boundary sits. Even off-leash, your dog needs to be under effective voice control and in sight at all times. Dogs must be leashed on the walk to and from the sand. Pick up after your dog immediately, fines apply for not doing so, and keep at least 10 metres clear of the children's playground and the barbecue and picnic areas, which are off-limits to dogs entirely.

What's there. A dedicated car park sits at the end of Bent Street, with public toilets and waste bins nearby. Shade is minimal, so bring your own if you are staying a while, and pack water for the dog since none is guaranteed on the sand.

Getting there. Drive in via Safety Bay Road or Mandurah Road, then turn onto Bent Street for the main car park. Transperth buses run along Safety Bay Road with stops an easy walk from the beach, useful if the car park fills on a weekend.

Nearby with the dogs. The Rockingham foreshore strip has several dog-friendly options within a few minutes: Rustico Tapas and Wine Bar welcomes dogs beachside, Spill the Beans and Lulu's Cafe both do a dog-friendly breakfast on the Esplanade, and Union Kitchen runs a dedicated dog menu. A handful of holiday rentals and apartments around the foreshore take pets too, confirm with the host or on the listing before booking.

When to go. Weekday mornings are quietest; weekend mornings, sunny afternoons and public holidays draw a crowd. The water stays shallow at both high and low tide, but low tide opens up more sand to run on, and as of mid-2026 low tides have been falling in the early evening. Good for nervous swimmers and dogs still building water confidence.
