Seahaven Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Seahaven Reserve Fenced Dog Park sits on the corner of Chalmers Avenue and Charthouse Road in Waikiki, a short walk from the Waikiki Village shops. It is a modern, fully enclosed City of Rockingham facility that is open 24 hours and split into two separate yards, so boisterous and timid dogs are not forced to share a fence line.

The dog setup

Entry runs through a double-gate airlock built to stop dogs slipping out while you are still dealing with the first gate. One yard is a dedicated small-dog section of around 2,000 square metres; the other takes the general crowd. Both carry agility extras including tunnels, climbing ramps, mounds and a sand pit for diggers, with internal trees for shade, water fountains with low dog bowls, benches and waste bins with bag dispensers. House rules ask owners to stay inside the enclosure, keep dogs under effective voice or visual control, leave dogs home if they are aggressive, sick, unvaccinated or in season, supervise children closely, and keep bikes, skateboards and scooters out of the yards. The equipment is built for dogs, not kids.

Max: toys and food stay in the car at this one. The leave-food-at-home rule keeps resource guarding down, and it is the main reason the play stays friendly.

Worth knowing

The reserve around the fenced yards is on-leash territory, so clip back on before you head off. A covered picnic table and a children's playground sit nearby, which makes it workable for families with a mix of two-legged and four-legged crew. Weekend mornings draw the biggest crowd; weekday late mornings are the quietest window if your dog needs space to warm up.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 2 Chalmers Avenue, Waikiki, in Perth's southern beachside suburbs. There is no big off-street car park, so parking is free street bays along Chalmers Avenue and the surrounding residential streets, which fill up on weekend mornings. Transperth buses run along Charthouse Road and Safety Bay Road if you are coming without a car.
