Bungaree Oval is a large open grassed oval in Rockingham that doubles as a designated off-leash dog exercise area - flat, green and good for fetch, with mature trees for shade and a path around the edge. It is an unfenced oval, so it suits dogs with reliable recall rather than escape artists.

The rules. Off-leash is allowed, but dogs must stay under voice control and in sight. Keep clear of playgrounds, picnic and barbecue areas by at least 10 metres, and pick up after your dog. Note that during organised junior sport or community events dogs may need to be on-leash or kept off parts of the oval, and rangers do patrol.

What's there. Expansive flat grass, perimeter walking and cycling paths, shaded seating, water fountains and overflow parking.

Getting there. Central Rockingham, reachable from local arterial roads with parking on nearby streets and a dedicated overflow area. Bus routes serve the residential area and cycling tracks connect in.

Nearby with the dogs. The Rockingham foreshore cafe strip is roughly five to ten minutes away by car for a dog-friendly coffee after.

Max: it is shared, unfenced ground - check for a junior sport match before unclipping, since the oval can be off-limits to dogs during games.

Quietest mid-morning on a weekday; early mornings and late afternoons fill with walkers and other dogs.
