Deception Bay Dog Beach

Deception Bay Dog Beach is the off-leash stretch of the Deception Bay foreshore running between Wallin Avenue and Joseph Crescent, a shallow, calm-water bay beach north of Brisbane. The draw is a safe paddle and a long sandy run at low tide rather than surf, and the clock matters in two ways: the tide and the council's footpath hours.

The dog setup

Dogs may be off-lead on the sand between Wallin Avenue and Joseph Crescent, under effective control with a reliable recall the whole time. On the foreshore footpath, a council trial allows off-lead access only before 8am and after 4pm daily; outside those windows and everywhere outside the marked stretch, the dog stays leashed.

Keep the lead on while walking to and from the access points, and read the signage on arrival: the City of Moreton Bay updates these conditions periodically and the trial arrangements can change.

The water and sand

This is a shallow, muddy-bottomed bay rather than open surf. At low tide you get a wide, firm run and easy shallow water for a paddle; at high tide the usable sand shrinks a lot, so check the Deception Bay tide times before you set out.

Pepsi: low tide is the whole plan here. Wide hard sand for a gallop, ankle-deep water for a splash, and none of the surf nerves that come with an ocean beach.

What is there

Dog waste bins and a paved foreshore footpath run parallel to the sand, with benches and some shade along the way. There are BBQs and picnic tables nearby, a playground to keep clear of, water taps for rinsing sandy paws, and public toilets close at hand.

Getting there and parking

The main access is off Captain Cook Parade at Deception Bay, with street parking along the foreshore. It sits about 15 minutes off the Bruce Highway at Narangba or the North Lakes interchange, making it an easy morning trip from Brisbane's northern suburbs.

Close by with the dogs

Two fenced options back the beach up in the same suburb: Claverton Drive Park and the small-dog Boama Park. Zesty Lemon Cafe handles the post-beach coffee, and Capestone Dog Park at Mango Hill is the pick if you are driving through.
