Capestone Dog Park

Capestone Dog Park runs along the edge of Capestone Lake in Mango Hill, in the Moreton Bay parkland known to the council as Richard Road Park. It is a fully fenced off-leash area with lakeside walking paths on its doorstep, so a play session and a proper walk fit into one trip.

The rules

Off-leash play is allowed inside the fenced enclosure only. Once you are out on the lake paths or anywhere else in the parkland, the dog goes back on a lead, and under Moreton Bay's general rules you need to stay in the off-leash area with your dog and keep it under effective control.

Clean up straight away and use the bins provided, and if a dog turns aggressive the expectation is to leash up and leave. Supervision is your job the whole time; the fence does the containing, not the council staff.

What is there

The enclosure splits into separate small-dog and large-dog areas with secure double-gated entry, which keeps size mismatches manageable. Water fountains serve both dogs and people, and there is sheltered seating for owners.

Free waste bags are stocked on site, though carry spares in summer when dispensers empty fast. The lake walking track, a playground and a public barbecue area sit alongside, so it works for families as well as dog walkers.

Max: do the fenced play first, then clip the lead back on and loop the lake path while your dog cools down.

Getting there

Reach it off Capestone Boulevard and the surrounding residential streets, with free parking close by. Mango Hill East station on the Redcliffe Peninsula line is within walking distance, which makes this one of the few dog parks you can visit without a car.

When to go

Weekday mid-mornings are the quiet window if you want an uninterrupted run for a reactive or training dog. Sunday afternoons and Saturday evenings fill up with regulars, which suits social dogs looking for company.
