Inkwell Wines is a small, low-intervention winery on California Road in Tatachilla, part of the McLaren Vale wine region, and it is genuinely dog-friendly thanks to its own resident vineyard dog, Daisy. The architecturally striking tasting room, built from recycled shipping containers, opens onto several outdoor decks and a rooftop viewing platform where visiting dogs are welcome on leash while you taste.
Dog access and setup. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor decks and lawn areas around the tasting room. Daisy, the winery's long-time resident dog, is often around, so keep visiting dogs leashed and well mannered until you know how they will get on together. Staff can usually provide a water bowl, but it is worth bringing your own bowl and treats in case. Indoors is Daisy's territory, so plan on the deck for your own dog. Note that the adjoining Hotel California Road at Inkwell Wines does not allow pets in its suites, so this is a tasting stop rather than a place to stay with your dog.
Known for. Inkwell is known for its shipping-container cellar door with valley views, its low-intervention and skin-contact wines, and its Shiraz. It is a boutique, appointment-friendly operation, so booking ahead is recommended, particularly on weekends.
Getting there and parking. The winery is at 377 California Road, Tatachilla, about a five-minute drive from the main McLaren Vale township. Free on-site parking is available.
Nearby with the dogs. Onkaparinga River National Park has several on-leash walking trails within easy reach, and Maslin Beach and Sellicks Beach are both roughly a ten to fifteen minute drive for a coastal walk afterwards. Several other McLaren Vale wineries along the same stretch are also known to welcome dogs on outdoor decks, though it is worth calling ahead to confirm before you arrive.
