Moores Hill Estate

Moores Hill Estate is a boutique, family-owned winery at 3343 West Tamar Hwy, Sidmouth, on the Tamar Valley wine route's western shore. The defining drawcard: it's Tasmania's first 100% off-grid vineyard, and well-behaved dogs on lead are welcome to join you in the outdoor tasting area.

The dog setup. Dogs stay on-lead at all times across the property. It's a working vineyard with wildlife nearby, so keeping your dog leashed and under control is non-negotiable. The outdoor seating is spacious, giving your dog room to settle beside you during a tasting. Water bowls aren't guaranteed, so bring your own.

Known for. Cool-climate wines including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling, produced entirely off-grid. The cellar door looks out over the vineyard with panoramic views of the Tamar River and surrounding hills. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, well-suited to visitors arriving with a dog in tow.

Getting there and parking. Roughly 30 to 35 minutes' drive from Launceston on the west side of the Tamar River. Ample flat on-site parking sits right beside the cellar door, making for an easy walk from car to tasting area.

Nearby with the dogs. The Rowella wineries are a short drive south and worth pairing into a Tamar Valley afternoon: Holm Oak Vineyards, Westella Vineyard and Iron Pot Bay Vineyard. For a meal or coffee stop, The Cabin in Exeter is close by, and the Exeter Fenced Dog Park gives your dog a proper off-lead run before or after your cellar door visit.

When to go. Aim for a late morning or midweek arrival if you want the deck to yourself. Weekends and warm afternoons fill up quickly during peak Tamar Valley season.
