Marion's Vineyard

Marion's Vineyard is a small, family-run winery on the Tamar River at 335 Deviot Road, about 35 to 40 minutes north of Launceston. Dog owners come for the riverside lawns: dogs stay with you on a lead while you work through a tasting or a platter looking over the water, in a setting widely rated among the best in the Tamar Valley.

Dogs on a lead are welcome across the grounds, including the lawn and garden seating where you will be eating and drinking. Indoor access to the cellar door itself is best treated as an enquire-first matter, especially on busy days or when a function is on, so plan around an outdoor table. Bring your own water bowl rather than assuming one will be out. It is worth knowing the vineyard has its own resident dog, Echo, a large and vocal character, so a dog that is comfortable around other animals will settle in faster.

Tastings cover the estate range, with the pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon regularly singled out by reviewers. The pick-your-own tasting platters are the food draw here: local Tasmanian cheeses, deli meats, housemade crostini and olives grown on the property. Opening hours shift with the seasons, running roughly 11am to 4pm in the cooler months and out to 5pm through the warmer ones, so check the website before a special trip.

Max: keep the lead on around the vineyard rows and lawn edges, a short leash keeps things calm with Echo and other visitors about.

Getting there and parking

Deviot Road runs along the western side of the Tamar River; the entrance is signposted off the road and on-site parking is free. Weekday visits are quieter and easier with a dog, and if a weekend is your only window, a quick call ahead helps staff point you to the best outdoor spot.
