Evenfall Winery and Restaurant is a cellar door and dining room above the vineyards on Upper McEwans Road, and dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck while you work through the tasting list.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome outdoors on the deck and in the open-air sections, on a lead and settled beside your seat. There is no fee. Water bowls turn up for passing dogs, but bring your own bowl and a few treats for a long lunch.

Good to know. The drawcard is the estate-grown, cool-climate Tasmanian wine paired with a seasonal, local-produce menu, all looking out over the Tamar Valley. It gets busy on weekends, so a booking matters.

Getting there. It is a scenic 15-minute drive north from Launceston CBD to 2 Upper McEwans Rd, Legana. On-site parking is available but fills on weekends; book ahead and arrive early.

Nearby with the dogs. Tailrace Park in Riverside has open grass by the water, about 5-10 minutes south. Tamar Island Wetlands is roughly 10 minutes toward Launceston for a walk on the surrounding grass, though dogs are not permitted on the main boardwalk.

When to go. Book ahead for weekends. A weekday lunch on the deck is the easier option if you want a table without a wait.
