Cafe Romero

Cafe Romero is a family-run cafe at 4/8 Legana Grove in Legana, on the West Tamar highway corridor north of Launceston, and it opens weekday mornings only, 7:30am to 3:30pm, closed on weekends. What it does with those five days is build regulars: consistent Italian-style coffee, a bacon, egg and cheese toastie with a following, and booth seating plus undercover outdoor tables where your dog can sit with you rather than wait tied up out front.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the designated outdoor seating area, which is covered, so a change of Tamar-basin weather will not send you packing. The team has a reputation for being genuinely warm to visiting dogs, and the quiet neighbourhood setting suits calm dogs and a slow coffee. There is no dedicated dog menu; bring your own bowl if you want to offer water.

Worth knowing

The coffee is the headline, brewed on premium Italian-style beans by baristas regulars rate among the best on the West Tamar. Food runs to classic and premium toasties including the Romero Club, breakfast and brunch plates, light lunches and sweet treats, with vegetarian options, and there is made-to-order fresh fruit ice cream in summer. Pastries come from a local artisan bakery. The one planning trap is the weekend: it typically shuts Saturday and Sunday, so this is a weekday stop.

Getting there and parking

Legana Grove sits just off the West Tamar Highway, about 12 kilometres north of Launceston via Riverside. Parking is free in the adjacent complex lot, so stopping in with the dog is easy. Pair it with the Tanner Drive off-lead dog park a short drive away, a fully fenced council reserve with grass and a bag dispenser, or the Windsor Park fenced dog park at Riverside on the way through.
