Island Cabin & Tourist Parks now trades as Launceston Holiday Park, a bushland park on the West Tamar Highway at Legana, ten minutes from the Launceston CBD. For dog owners the proposition is specific: this is a van-and-camper stop. Dogs are welcome on the powered and camping sites, and the park is a practical base for working the Tamar Valley wine route with a dog in the car.

Dogs at the Launceston Holiday Park

Book a powered site and your dog comes along, on leash at all times inside the park and under your clean-up routine. Cabins are off the table: the park's own FAQ excludes pets from cabin and serviced accommodation, apart from assistance dogs, so do not book one expecting wiggle room even if an old listing says otherwise. Pet fees are not published, so ask at booking. The setting is quiet parkland with wildlife about, another reason the leash rule is enforced.

Max: a powered site under the trees with the river valley out the door beat any cabin, at least for us.

Worth knowing

The park keeps the basics covered with a camp kitchen, BBQ area and amenities block, but it is a straightforward stopover rather than a resort. Legana's shopping centre is close by for supplies, which matters when you are feeding both yourself and a dog for a few days.

Getting there and parking

The park is on the West Tamar Highway at Legana, an easy drive from Launceston and the start of the Tamar wine route up through Exeter, Beaconsfield and Beauty Point. You park at your site, so arriving with a dog and a loaded van is no trouble.

Close by with the dogs

The Legana Off-Lead Dog Park (Tanner Drive) is minutes away for a proper run, and the Beaconsfield Fenced Dog Park covers a secure option further up the highway. Cafe Romero is close for breakfast and Evenfall Winery and Restaurant sits just up the road for a longer lunch.
