Windsor Park Fenced Dog Park

Windsor Park Fenced Dog Park is the off-leash enclosure inside the wider Windsor Community Precinct at 1 Windsor Drive, Riverside, just off the West Tamar Highway. It is a secure, well-kept run alongside the precinct's sporting fields, popular with locals for a straightforward off-leash session without driving into Launceston.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with a double-gate entry, and dogs stay on lead until you are through both gates. Voice control is expected even once off-leash, waste goes in the bins with the supplied bags, and any dog showing aggression is leashed and taken straight out. Off-leash runs around the clock here, though the session you get depends entirely on who else has the same idea.

Worth knowing

The broader precinct carries the amenities: water taps, public toilets, electric BBQs and picnic benches, plus walking tracks that loop the sports grounds. Some lighting spills over from the adjacent oval, which makes early evening visits workable through the darker months. Weekends and the weekday 4pm to 6pm window are busiest; mid-morning on weekdays is quieter, and Thursday evenings are a reasonable bet if you want the yard to yourselves.

Max: pair the dog park lap with a loop of the precinct walking track. You get your steps and the dog gets the fence line, everyone goes home tired.

Getting there and parking

The precinct sits just off the West Tamar Highway (A7), near the Nightcap at Riverside Hotel, with ample free parking on-site. Metro Tasmania buses run along the highway with stops close by, and walking tracks connect through the surrounding Riverside streets if you arrive on foot.
