The Rocherlea Recreation Ground Fenced Dog Park at 38 Lilydale Rd, Rocherlea, is a securely fenced off-leash area within the wider recreation ground. The fence is the defining feature: a safe boundary for off-leash running, set well away from the manicured sports fields.

The rules. Off-leash is permitted only inside the fenced zone. Dogs must be on a leash everywhere else in the recreation ground and are forbidden from the sports fields entirely, even on a leash. Pick up waste immediately and keep voice control at all times.

What's there. Secure fencing, picnic tables and shaded spots in the surrounding parkland, on-site parking, and an unsealed walking trail around the general area.

Getting there. About 10 minutes' drive north from Launceston CBD via Lilydale Rd (B81). Metro Tasmania buses service Lilydale Rd and stop near the recreation ground entrance.

The sports-field rule is strictly enforced, so clip the lead back on before you exit the fence and stick to the perimeter trail.

Peak times. Weekday afternoons between 3pm and 5pm and weekend mornings around 10am are busiest; early mornings are quieter and suit older dogs.

Nearby with the dogs. Make a day of it back in Launceston with a stop at Aroma's Cafe or The Devil's Own Ice Creamery.

Go early on a weekday for the most space. This park suits high-energy dogs after a proper off-leash run behind a secure fence.
