The Devil's Own Ice Creamery

The Devil's Own is a small-batch ice creamery at 20 Lawrence Street in South Launceston, and it works best in a dog owner's day as the treat stop on the walk home. Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables out front while you order, and the service is used to dogs waiting at the door.

The dog setup

Dogs settle at the outdoor footpath seating, on a short lead and tucked in close, because the space out front is compact and it does not take many customers to make it snug. Bring your own water bowl on warmer days, as the footpath is not set up like a full cafe courtyard. Off-peak afternoons are the easy window for a table with room for a dog.

The vibe

The ice cream is the whole point: handmade in small batches, with waffle cones, waffles, sorbets and flavours that rotate past the expected list, and there are gluten-free and dairy-free options that do not feel like an afterthought. It runs Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm and closes Monday and Tuesday, so it is a fine-afternoon stop rather than a morning coffee run.

Getting there and parking

Lawrence Street has on-street parking that gets busy at peak times, and the shop is an easy walk from the surrounding residential streets of South Launceston. From the Launceston city side it is a short drive south.

Close by with the dogs

For a run before the cone, the Coronation Park Fenced Dog Park and the Lawrence Vale Road Reserve Fenced Dog Park are both nearby in South Launceston, and the Waterfront Dog Park at Newstead pairs well with a riverside walk. The surrounding suburban streets are quiet and good for a leashed wander if you just want the loop.
