The Lawrence Vale Road Reserve fenced dog park is a compact, fully enclosed off-leash area on Lawrence Vale Road in South Launceston, handy to the city centre. It is the kind of spot you use for a quick, secure blow-off rather than a long ramble, and the fence is the main reason to pick it.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash only inside the fenced boundary. In every surrounding area they must be on-leash. Keep your dog in sight and under voice control, pick up after it using the bins provided, and remove any dog that turns aggressive since the space is shared and small.

What's there. A secure perimeter fence, a water station, bench seating for owners and a wheelchair-accessible entrance. The surface is part grass and part dirt, so it can get dusty through a dry summer and muddy after rain. Good off-road parking sits close by.

Getting there. Access is straight off Lawrence Vale Road in South Launceston, a short walk from the surrounding residential streets. Launceston bus stops are nearby but leave a short walk to the reserve.

When to go. It is busiest on weekend mornings and after about 4pm on weekdays. Because it is small it fills quickly, so a shy dog is better off mid-week in the morning or early afternoon when you are more likely to have the run of the place.
